In which AS Byatt saves me from thinking about things

By making me think about other things and there is gratitude.

So, is this the new A S Byatt you're talking about? Because if it is, I want to hear more . . .

Y'see, I'm a huge fan of Possession, and it's one of my "comfort reads" (ie pick it up any time, open it anywhere, and enjoy it); but I read some of her other stuff and didn't like it as much, seemingly inhabited as it was by wan English persons having depressingly bad sex. BUT BUT BUT the new one looks like it could be rather good.

what do you think?

I am reading the newest one now, and yes it is very good. Byatt is so unforgiving of her characters, but she's very kind to landscapes. Don't quite know what to make of that.

I never enjoyed Possession, but I can see I will have to give it another go. Clearly I was missing something.

The one I was reading last week was The Biographers Tale, which is indeed full of English pasty bad sex. Chockers, in fact. And before that I enjoyed Angels and Insects, lots.

(sorry not to reply earlier, but blogger ate my comment)
